Mitsubishi Repair: TEMPERATURE GAUGE RISING-DIAMANTE, mitsubishi diamante, temperature gauge

Question
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Diamante. The car's temperature gauge rises and sometimes goes beyond the HOT sensor but the engine never overheats. When I add coolant the gauge rises but not as fast as if there is not any. What could be the problem?

Answer
Mike: Sounds like maybe your water pump is getting weak and not moving the water around the engine as it should be. I would get that checked, does your car use much water? And what about the smoking coming out of the exhaust? If it is white in color, you might have a weak head gasket which should be checked also. Another thing would be the radiator, make sure there is nothing keeping the air from getting to it, check the cap, sometimes they do get bad. Also do the fan or fans start up with that temperature gauge goes up? There is a fuse that runs those fans which might be out. So check your fuses. Some ideas to check... God bless: Linda
