Mitsubishi Repair: MITSUBISHI PAJERO 2800 TURBO AUTO 1992, mitsubishi pajero, private dealer

Question
I purchased the above car 3 months ago from a private dealer.  3 weeks ago it broke down.  There was a juddering and then the car cam to a virtual stop.  No amount of acceleration would get the car going.  It would eventually pick up very slowly and after  a few hundred miles would do the same.  My dealer friend tells me there was no transmission fluid in the gearbox which has caused damage.  There was.  Is there anything else it can be as I don't wasn't to be ripped of with unnecessary garage bills.  Can you also confirm how much fluid should be in the gearbox for it to come up to the high level mark.

Thank you

Answer
Dorothy: My thought is for you get the the gearbox fluid changed and the filter too; as to see if that might fix some of your problem. I don't know how much fluid should be in the gearbox. I think I would be going back to the private dealer and see if they checked that before they sold you the car. It could be someone did not tighten something up and so you lost fluid going down the road. Still what would the juddering and then the car would stop. If you were loosing the fluid the first times the car stopped I don't think you could have got it going again if it was the lost fluid. It would not keep filling its self and you were not putting fluid into it right? I think you should find someone to code the car's computer to see if it might tell you what is going on with the car. Still if after you have the fluid(oil) and filter changed in the gearbox and it helps the problem. That was it, still three weeks, unless there was a leak in the gearbox, or that private dealer did not fill it up as far as it was to go. Then you need to get after the private dealer because he has sold you a car with a problem. Could be a costly problem at that. I have to say they don't treat women very good in some places when selling or working on cars. But you have to put your foot down and get some answers to what is going on with your car!
