Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage Broken Cigarette Lighter, cigarette lighter, mitsubishi mirage

Question
Hi, I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage and the cigarette lighter doesn't work when I plug in the adapter for my navigation system.  The adapter works in other cars, so I'm assuming it's my cigarette lighter.  I checked the fuse and it wasn't blown out, but I changed it anyway and it still doesn't work.  Is there anything else I can do to try to fix it on my own, or do I have to take the car in to the dealership?  Thank you!

Answer
Tracy: Sounds like maybe a small wire might have broken off or come loose from the cigarette lighter. Sometimes that happens, now look I don't know how much you know about cars or how much you want to get into repairing your's. But if you want to try to fix this yourself then go into a parts store, buy a Haynes Repair Manual for your car, they cost around $20.00 and would walk you through how to take care of this problem. If you don't want to get that much into fixing the car, then take it to a shop or dealership. It could be that a wire has just come loose someplace too. Oh have you ever used the cigaretter lighter in your car? Has it worked then? Just something for you to explain to whatever shop or dealership you go to. Or if you want to fix it yourself. Take care, God bless: Linda
