Mitsubishi Repair: vrx lancer instrument display problem, fuel gauge, woman god

Question
my mitsubishi lancer tacho, odometer and temp display have been cutting out. Can't seem to pinpoint any reason for it.  Sometimes when I start the car there are no displays on the above, but the fuel gauge always works and all the aircon, radio lights and indicators work fine.  Also have noticed when I have driven at night the headlights dim on changing of revs eg when braking or slowing.  Am a pensioner lady and would appreciate some advice to inform repairers when I can afford to take it in. thanx

Answer
Dee: I would say you have a short in the wiring. In that sometimes it touch the body which is still metal and so it shorts out. But not enough to blow the fuses. You need to get the car into a shop or dealership to have them find the problem then fix it. If you see the lights dim some, that is because the short it pulling the power away or the voltage meter has to kick things up because more power is being used. Please don't put this off, I know some people that are on  a fixed income do, but if you put it off it will get worse with time and get to the point that you could lose your lights. Another thing they could check also is a weak relay too. I can only give you ideas on these things. You did not put down a year on this car so I am thinking it is not a new car. Do let the shop or dealership know that you are not able to pay alot, so they must let you know up front what the cost of the repairs will be before they just do the work. Don't let them push you around either because you are woman. God bless: Linda
