Mitsubishi Repair: starting and running problems, mitsubishi nimbus, nimbus 2000

Question
Hi we have a mitsubishi nimbus 2000. Has starting problems which can be
intermittent. But usually a warm start turn the key and no turn over or noise.
However it does start after trying for 10mins or so then runs fine. The other
problem is  when driving the engine light comes on and drives really rough!
Only running on 2 cylinders not four i think. But when stop and restart it
resets itself and is fine again. Have had car run through a computer check
and nothing has been picked up so at a lose of what to do next. HELP!

Answer
Tamar: Two ideas here, one your car's computer is bad or going bad. So it would not show up any problems with it, because it is getting bad. Being you say that if you stop it and then it resets its self so then it is fine. That is the computer resetting its self. My son had a car like that, though everything checked out with the computer it turned out to be a bad computer. The other idea would be there is a large bundle of wires that run from the engine department through the top of the fender, the splashguard keeps the wires up but if your splashguard has come out or got weak, sometimes the tire will rub on those wires and cause a short. I would check both of those things still as long as the car works after it resets its self that sounds like a bad computer to me. You can get a new computer for your car, have your car's computer rebuild or get a rebuild computer for your car. But I would start with the computer. God bless: Linda
