Mitsubishi Repair: 97 Mitsubishi Galant trunk doesnt open, mitsubishi galant, wd40

Question
Hi,
My 97' Galant doesn't open by key or by the switch by the drivers' seat. I currently open it by lowering the backseat in order to get to the back. The switch seems to work, as when I lift it, a part presses on a spring, which presses on some tube. As for the key, I can't turn it much at all on the trunk, while it works perfectly fine for turning the ignition or opening the other doors. Any ideas?

Answer
Joseph: I would say the cable is either broken that would be the cable that the switch by the driver's seat would run. Or else it just needs to get some cleaning and then oiled good. You might try some WD40 a kind of oil in a can. Same for the place where you put the key in the trunk to open it. Try using the key, as to put in the hole on the trunk where the key goes and then put some oil in there. That WD40 oil. Also when the trunk is open, spray the trunk locking area. Also the place there the hook it that keeps the trunk closed when the trunk is closed. Your car is a 1997 model think how much air, dirt, dust, rain and what not gets into all that. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
