Mitsubishi Repair: eclipse ac problem, evaporator pan, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
i have a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse 2.4 auto and when i turn the ac on it has a bad smell and the driver side floor board gets wet, i thought it was the heater core so i bypassed it and the problem still exists the ac blows cold still but the problem is the water in the floor and the smell, any suggestions of what it might be or how to fix it?

Answer
Nic,
The drain tube that goes from your evaporator pan down to the bottom of the car is probably clogged.  When that clogs up, the water that condenses and drips off the A/C evaporator will accumulate and eventually spill over onto the floor boards.  The smell is probably mildew due to the all the water and moisture.  You may have luck getting under the car and trying to remove the clog from the drain tube.  Compressed air is usually a safe way to try to unclog it.  If that doesn't help, you may need to get into the heater core to clear it from the inside.
Good luck!
