Mitsubishi Repair: Miss Fire cyl 1 95 eclipse gst, eclipse gst, miss fire

Question
i have a 95 eclipse GST 5 speed manual with 154400 miles on it. the check engine light is on and when it gets checked it says miss fire in cyl 1. how would i test or know for sure that this is the problem. when i put the car from reverse into 1st gear it usually dies on me and then i have to push start it. could this be the battery being dead as i think its really old or could that go along with the miss fire?

Answer
Michael,
A cheap and quick way to check this is to simply replace the spark plug with a new one.  You should replace your spark plugs and wires every 30,000 miles.  A bad battery can cause starting and idling problems.  Batteries typically need to replaced every 5-7 years and alternators usually need replacing around 7-10 years.
Good luck!
