Mitsubishi Repair: fuel pump power, fuse box, fuel pump

Question
Hello, I have a 2000 mirage (1.8 engine) I wanted to replace the fuel filter and following the instructions of the repair guide I remove the rear seat cushion and unplugged the pump cable, I started the car and it keep running like 5 minutes, i drove the car with the connector unplugged like ½ an hour more but it didn’t shut down, I believe that the previous owner install another fuel pump, I haven’t got the opportunity to lift the car and get under it to follow the fuel lines, but before I do that I wanted to know if theirs another way to cut the fuel pump power assuming that is connected to the same power lines?

Hoping to hear soon from you.

Answer
Armando,
I'm not too familiar with the Mirage, but you may have luck finding a fuel pump fuse or relay (either under the steering column fuse box or under the hood) that you can pull.  That should cut power to the pump so you can relieve the pressure.  Once the fuel pump doesn't have power, it should only take a few seconds to shut off.

But if the previous owner really did install another fuel pump (which is something I've never heard anyone do or even attempt), there's a chance they also rewired the fuses and/or relays.  You may want to double check the cable you pulled from the fuel pump to be sure it's the correct one.
Good luck!
