Mitsubishi Repair: 94 1.8L eclipse, autozones, junk yard

Question
My problem is it starts everytime but on cold starts it'll sputter down to nothing and stall out it seems to be better when the car is warm but any time its idleing itll sputter down all the way to around 3-500rpms sometimes even lower depending. It seems to be getting worse and im trying not to drive the car as much as possible. It also seems to be starting to sputter a bit while at a cruising speed and it did trip the check engine, but all the autozones around here only diagnoise 96 and up

Answer
Mike: That would be a computer or sensor problem, you will have to get yourself a voltmeter and repair manual as to know the right readings then check the car yourself. Or find another shop that will do the computer coding but they will charge you for the print out. But then you could have them fix the problem too, I would say the computer is one of the bad ones. The car company farmed out the building of their computers to another company which did not make very good ones. A piece will start to break down, so it leaks into the computer and with time it kills off the computer. This shows up in many way but one way is with what you wrote about. So I am thinking you have one of those bad computers, don't go out to a junk yard and buy a used one that kind of fits your car. Or borrow one from a friend. You have to have one that fits your car, year, model and engine. There are places on line that will rebuild the computer, or you can buy one at the parts stores and yes, you could get one out of a junked car, just make sure it will work with your car. Other wise you will cause yourself more problems then you have now. You will have to get this fixed, as once the computer dies the game will be over for your car to run. As the computer controls everything in that car with the help of many, many sensors through out the car. God bless: Linda
