Mitsubishi Repair: Intermittent Speedo + Tach + Odometers, electric power options, 1997 mitsubishi mirage

Question
Hello Linda, thank you for taking time to respond to my issue!
1997 Mitsubishi Mirage LS Coupe, 1.8L, Manual, 114K miles -No Cruise control, no electric power options.  The only "extras" are A/C and a CD player.
ISSUE: Speedo, Tach and Odometer have been working intermittently, always together - all 3 off, or all 3 on.  Everything else on the instrument panel function normally and consistently (signals, temp, fuel, high-beams, etc.)  It is time for another vehicle inspection and I want to avoid failing.
I've read your responses to similar issues and researched on-line.  I checked all fuses (in cabin and under hood), battery and alternator - all are working well.
I even removed the instrument cluster and checked the circuit boards with a meter.  I re-soldered every single contact for the Speedometer, Tachometer and the main circuit board mounted behind the whole cluster.  Nothing I have done has altered my problem.  The gauges remain intermittent.  If you have any other suggestions, I would be grateful.  I am trying to avoid an unfairly expensive visit to the mechanic.
Thank you again,
Dan

Answer
Dan: Have you checked the Speedo cable? It sounds like it is getting old and needs to be replaced, it could be those others need that too, so check the cables that runs the Speedo, the Tach and the Odometer though maybe they all run off the same cable as the Speedo. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
