Mitsubishi Repair: 4d68 fan belt problem, how to use a ruler, fan belt

hi ive got a 1992 galant with a 2.0 diesel engine nr 4d68 and it has a problem with the fan belt it keeps breaking them. I change it and after a while i have to tighten it and again and again until it breaks. Could it be the rollers that it sits on and this because their not the right size or depth or is it a misalignment from the manufacturers side or the alternator that its got inside?

Zmeul: Sure you are putting on the right belt for your car? Do you buy them at a parts store? If so I would say you might have a bearing out on one of the pulleys that the belt sits on going out. Another thing would be to check is are you tighting the belt to much? You should buy a repair manual for your car and it will show you how to use a ruler to make sure you are putting the belt on right and then how much to tighten it down. To much and the the belt will break the ruler would show you just the right amount to set the belt at. God bless: Linda
