Mitsubishi Repair: 02 Diamante fuel pump, fuel starvation, starvation problem

Question
02 Diamante was running fine.  Then developed a "fuel starvation" problem.  We figured it was the fuel pump.  We replaced it with a new one from the dealer.  Car was fine for about a week.  Then went to the same problem.  First we thought we may have gotten a bad fuel pump.  Then we realized something strange.  If you take the back seat out of the car, and expose the top of the fuel pump, there is a wire running to the pump.  If you press that wire down (so that is touches the fuel pump) the car will start.  If you let got, the car goes dead.  We have another Diamante, a 2000, that we have been working on.  It has similar problems.  Electronic or fuel related

Answer
Wanda: Did you know there is a recall on this car, the recall is about the main wiring harness may not have enough clearnace between the engine control harness and the exhaust heat sheild. So the covering on the main wiring harness maybe melt. So I was thinking if that was happening with your car, it would then cause a short in the wiring in your car and it would or could cause the wiring that runs the pump to be a mess. You need to get this checked out but I would say a dealership or shop would have to do that. If you were going for the recall then a dealership would have to do the checking. But the only way this to happen on two cars one 2000 model and one 2002 I would say from this recall. As there are wires that should not be touching as in a short for things like this to be happening. God bless: Linda
