Mitsubishi Repair: 1991 Montero wont start, crank angle sensor, new distributor cap

Question
I have a 1991 Montero.  We just replaced all the gaskets on the heads and timed and tuned the engine.  I have spark, fuel, and have double checked the timing.  The engine turns over but won't start.  HELP

Answer
Anthony: You are sure the timing belt is on the right marks, the older the cars the harder it is to see those marks. You say you have fuel but are you sure you have enough fuel pressure for the car to start, you can have that tested to see. Are you sure when you did your engine tune up, you put all the wires back on the stark plugs right, did you put in a new distributor cap and rotor. In the distributor cap there is a crank angle sensor. You could try to take the distributor cap loose, then turn it to the left and try to start the car, then turn it to the right and try to start the car. Sometimes that will work. You could also have the car coded to see what the computer might kick out, your car is old enough for those bad computers too. There is a lot of sensors in your car even at this year. Takes three things for an engine to start, air, fuel and stark but the computer has to put them all together right so the engine will run. So get the computer checked, still maybe you should see if someone else might check that timing. Could be you are off just a bit. I see by reading your first line, that you replaced all the gaskets on the heads, timed and turned the engine. Sorry I thought you had put on a timing belt. So has the timing belt ever been replaced in the car? Ok, well get the car coded and see if anything comes about with that. Get the fuel pump checked to see it is putting out enough pressure. Oh hey one of the guys here a the shop, said you could check to see if you might have burnt out a relay. Those are in black boxes in with the engine, on the tops of the boxes explain what is in each box, so should check those too. God bless: Linda
