Mitsubishi Repair: 97 mitsubishi galant, mitsubishi galant, fuel pumps

Question
just had my timing belt replaced and now my car is going dead when i start slowing down. it acts like the transmission doesn't want to shift to the lower gears when i'm stopping and if i don't mash the gas, it starts jumping and goes dead.then when i start it back up, i have to mash the gas hard as soon as i put it in drive or it'll go dead again. it does ok when i first crank it and it'll drive ok as long as i'm keeping my speed up.

Answer
Suzette: Three things to do here, one take the car back to whatever shop did the timing belt to make sure they did their work right. As to check that, sometimes when putting the timing belt back on they do not get it on the right marks. So make them check their work. Two have the car coded to see if the computer might kick out what is going on with your car(got an AutoZone close by? They will code your car for free) and number three have the fuel pump tested. You should only run your car's tank down to 1/4 full before filling it back up. Been replacing a lot of fuel pumps of late but then most people don't know this. As the fuel is what keeps the pump cool, so if you run the car down to empty to much, you with time  you will cook the fuel pump. God bless: Linda
