Mitsubishi Repair: 89 marage, vacuum leak, car idles

Question
QUESTION: my car idles rough and sometimes won't idle at all. It also surges on the hyw at mid throttle. It has a new fuel pump in the tank and new filters.

ANSWER: Ken: You need to have your car coded as your car is the right year for the bad computers. The car company farmed out the building of their computers to another company. That company did not build very good ones, with time a piece will died, leaking its insides into the computer and that will with time kill off that computer. It often shows up as a rough idle. So coding would show what the computer is doing and if any of the sensors are getting weak. The computer controls everything in that car of your's. Even at this year. So get it coded, that is where a shop will hook their inshop computer up to your car's computer, then where will be a read out. That should tell you what the problem is. Also you could check for a vacuum leak someplace. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda

QUESTION: Will the computer from a 90 fit my 89 and work ok?
What is the difference between the two emission types that show from my car?

Answer
Ken: No on the computer, because the computer for 1989 is set on everything in that engine at the year of 1989 but a 1990 would be different. You will just mess everything up if you try to use a 1990 computer in your 1989. You must keep the same computer year and model in your car that came with it. You can have the computer rebuild on line a lot of places do this or else try to buy the right computer for your car at a parts store. But don't try to save money on the computer, it will cause you problems in the long run. As for the second question I don't understand what you are wanting there. God bless: Linda
