Mitsubishi Repair: Tail light burned out, no screws, autozones

Question
QUESTION: I was wondering how you replace the right hand side tail light.? I mean it didnt look like it was going to be a lil tricky

ANSWER: Crystal: This will be a bit hard for me without the car's year and model. But some car you can reach in from the inside of the tunk, once you remove the panel inside the tunk, to get at the back side of the light bulb, turn it one way or the other till you find a way to unlock it and put it out, remove the old bulb and put in a new one. But if that does not work, then you might have to remove two screws that holds the cover on, pull the cover off and then replace the bulb. If you have an AutoZone close by, go there buy the bulb and get them to replace it for you. As most AutoZones are more than willing to help a lady with such things as this. If you tell them you are not sure how to do this yourself and I think they will help you. But then so might other parts stores, if your car is new enough the book that came with the car, would explain how to do this too. Either way I hope this helps and God bless: Linda

QUESTION: Oh my bad, I guess that would help a little, sorry. It is a 2001 galant. I looked inside the trunk where most are just a turn as you stated but it doesnt twist at all,and the plug going into the actual light lens thing doesnt look like most cars I have delt with. It kind of looks like it may be a plug like the kind on wireing harnesses under the hood. and then I checked to see if I could find screws anywhere around the outside lens thing so I could do it that way but there are no screws noticeable. (and just so you dont think iam like most girls, I could pretty much do almost anything when my car needs repairs, so I know my way around a car.(even though it prolly doesnt seem like it from my question) But thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Cystal: As I think about it now, some of the newer cars you end up removing the whole lens, I believe there is four gee I am not sure how to explain this to you. But at each corner of this lans there should be something, maybe the end screws off, well something is there. You say you understand car and you have done this before so don't throw in the towel just yet. Stick you face right next to these lens and really look at them. I just can not explain how it works but I believe you have to remove that whole lens, but check out each corner of that lens and there should be the way to remove it, in that you can back the lens out of its spot, then once you pull the lens you can take the back off of it and and remove that bulb. I mean they make them harder and harder to do yourself, because they want you to spend the money and have them do it. And they can be costly, when you think they pull $45.00 to $75.00 an hour in labor. And they could get in there and out in a matter of a few minutes but they don't. They will mess around till they have a hour or two so you have to pay that bill. That is why I thought of an AutoZone, but you got a male friend that might help you? Or a female friend two heads are always better than one. Oh way the way those high labor costs are for a dealership, not all shops charge that. So keep me posted on this. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
