Mitsubishi Repair: 94 galant ticking lifters, lifters, question thanks

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I have a 94 2.0 v6 galant and the lifters have been driving me insane for a long time. I wrote in a while ago with the same problem, but have not done anything because it was just noise and there was no performance issue that i could feel.

Old question: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Mitsubishi-Repair-824/1994-galant-valve-ticking.htm

Anyway,  I was interested what was the best step in solving this issue with the ticking lifters?

I have used synthetic oil, put cleaner in the oil also with no avail.  Is it best to get the lifters cleaned?  or should I replace them all?

I have also heard you can replace the lifters with a different Mitsubishi lifter that have larger openings that will resolve this problem in the long run.  Is this true?

Thanks for your advice in advance.
Shaun

ANSWER: Hi, Well First thing is do not use Synthetic oil!! Your car is to old that is very bad for your motor, this will cause ticking lifters, also could damage your engine. OK first thing is first you could go to your local parts store and try using there special lifters oil see if that works. Also check your level of oil and make sure you have enough. Then if this does not work replace them. There going to run you around 10.00 each plus tax so your talking allot of money. Or just test them and find out what ones need replacing.
If you replace the lifter will you be doing this job yourself? If so I'll take you further into it on how to test them. Thanks I hope this helps,Kevin

QUESTION: Thanks for your prompt answer Kevin.

I have done the lifter oil and check the oil regularly.  It's to a point where I think they are having an effect on the cars performance.  i.e. the car will stutter and jolt  when accelerating, which totally ruins power.  could this be a symptom  of the lifters?

Also, I wouldn't be replacing the lifters myself if i were to get them changed.  though are there other ways of checking the lifters?

Cheers Again
Shaun

Answer
There is only one way to check them and that is to take them out one at a time and see if they push in or not

If they push in there bad, if they are solid then there good.

The other thing I need to add is that you using synthetic oil is bad for you year vehicle. It's only flushing all the oil out of your lifters because it's so thin.

When lifters are bad they will give you a little loss of power because they are not spring up the rockerarms up rapid as they should. Hope this helps thanks.
