Mitsubishi Repair: 1999 Eclipse spyder GS, eclipse spyder, spyder gs

Question
I have a 1999 eclipse spyder GS with a 2.4 liter (141 HP)engine but I also have a 1997 eclipse spyder GS-T with a 2.0 liter turbo(210 HP)engine which I got an accident with. On the 97 the engine is like new, I spend $2,000 on it the day before my accident(New clutch, fixed idle problem, new starter, fixed everything that was bad).

I was wondering if it is possible and how much it would cost me to swap my engines, or if it would be better to put a turbo and keep the 2.4 liter engine, or even take the turbo from my 2.0L engine and put it in my 2.4L one.

What would I have to change and/or add?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi, Well there would be allot of change to be honest, ecu would have to be changed. But because you just about have everything there because of having both cars you will be saving allot of money. if none of these where available I would say no. I would honestly just swap the motors because you can just swap everything from one car to another. The problem with just installing the turbo would cost money because you can't use the ECU from any of these cars.

Also the 2.4l engine is junk compared to the 2.0.

The other problems your going to run into is that your GST is probably AWD and the 1997 is just FWD. other thing is that i can't think of it but are the engines on both cars facing the same way? Tranny on the passenger side and engine on the driverside?  Are they both Manual of Automatic. There is allot of factors. Also just like any other swap once you do any of this it will fight you until the end. Meaning it will take forever to get all the flaws out.

The other thing I read up on is that you can swap heads on these motors. you would have to take the 2.4l block out and bring it to the machine shop and get it shaved and you can swap the heads this will increase horse power. But again lot of money and time.

This is going to be up to you if your ready to tackle such a difficult task. I hope I helped if there is anything else please let me know thanks again,Kevin.
