Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Mirage grinding noise-brakes replaced, brakes rotors, rear brakes

Question
At my wits end...'98 Mirage-recently had front brakes and rotors replaced (April)-rear brakes checked/adjusted. Last several months when slowing down and/or braking---grinding noise! Been back to my mechanic and he's checked brakes/rotors and finds nothing. Problem is it doesn't happen all the time- intermittent?? On other boards, I've noticed rotors/brakes to be a problem with Mits. Am I losing my mind? Hate to take to a Mits, dealer-trust my mechanic but...mechanic says everything is safe--just live with the noise?  I know nothing about cars--thanks for any help at all. This is my 2nd mits. and probably my last!

Answer
Cheryl: Live with it?? Oh come on, your mechanic had to have done something wrong. If the car was quiet while braking before this brake job well without the grinding noise then something was not put together right. Or put in right. The brakes have a anti-rattle clip, my guess would be one of those has broken. I had this happen when I had the brake worked on with my car. But the mechanic did not want to fix that. I mean the brakes work fine without that clip there. And so why spend the mechanic's money and of course time to fix it. You will have to take the car to a second shop and have them look at it. The thing is put your foot down, you paid good money to have those brakes put on and it is not the fault of the car but rather the person who worked on it. I get so upset with the way mechanics treat people these days. If the car was quiet before all this but you do not need to live with this. And you have a right to enjoy your car as well as the driving of it. I would find another shop and get them to check things over. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
