Mitsubishi Repair: 2004 mitsubishi lancer es, compression stroke, cylinder compression

Question
I have a question to a p0340 error code. Checked it at autozone and says something about camshaft sensor. It starts fine and I'm not sure if it's any different hesitating past 40 mph now then before however I do notice that the rpm side stays around 1? Should I get it checked by the dealer to see if there's something else wrong or is the cause the camshaft sensor. I mean I don't see the point in changing the sensor to try and save some bucks when it was something else all along. Just wondering what the problem usually is with this code on this car.

Answer
Johnny: You sound like my exhusband if it not broken why repair it. But the computer in your car has seen or found a problem in the system. So it kicked out that error code, so take the car to the dealer and get that fixed.Because it needs to be fixed, other wise down the road you car will finely start to run or maybe not run. The camshaft sensor detects the dead point in the number 1 and number 4 cylinder compression stroke, converts the pulse signal and sends the information to the computer, from there the computer determines the firing order. You want to just let this ride? Right now this sensor is most likely getting weak but if it goes out the firing order could get all mixed up. So get the car fixed, ok. Great! Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
