Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi, misubishi, compresser

Question
My 2001 Misubishi Galant cuts off when i turn on the heat and the air. My husband thinks it is because it needs to be idol up. What do you think and if so can you tell me how to do it.

Answer
Taylor: I would be checking the belt that runs the ac, do you mean when you turn on either the ac or the heat the car cuts off? As with the ac then you kick it on as inside the car, the compresser kicks on, it pulls a lot of power off the engine. If the compresser is bad, so that is does not turn, then it could stop the engine. Or if the belt is bad, it could stop the engine too. But if you turn on the heat and it kills the engine. Now that would be a new one for me. I would then have the car coded to see that the computer is picking up because it is killing the engine for some reason. Idle speed incorrect is what your husband is talking about, so if he says this is what the car needs, then have him set the correct idle for the car. To do this, you turn a small screw in the throttle body, but you got to be careful and not redo the idle to much or you will mess up other things in the engine. Could also be you need a new fuel filter, could be a good tune up on the car would be in order too. When is the last time you did that? Hope one of these ideas helps you. Merry Christmas now: Linda
