Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 Galant is leaking on driver side, 2000 mitsubishi galant, mitsubishi galant

Question
Hello Anthony,
I currently have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant and recently have experienced a problem when I turn the AC on. The floor on the drivers side starts to leak causing a puddle. I have asked people like those at Jiffy Lube and they have told me that I might need my Heating Coil replaced???  I wanted to first ask someone who might have encountered this problem before and hope you might help me. Also there is a sudden noise when I start the car will it help if I put that band oil on? thank you,
        Lois

Answer
Lois,
The people at Jiffy Lube were probably referring to your heater core; not coil.  But a bad heater core would leak coolant, not water.  You'd definitely be able to smell the difference if you were leaking coolant.  What may be happening is a clogged drain tube.  When your A/C is on, and the refrigerant passes through the evaporator (which is next to the heater core), water will condense and drain out of the car.  But if that drainage is blocked, the water will accumulate and spill over inside the car.  Sometimes a mechanic only needs to spray some compressed air into the drain tube to clear it out.  That would be a nearly free fix.  But have a mechanic check it out.  They'll be able to also better diagnose the sudden noise you're hearing.
Good luck!
