Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse Problem, mitsubishi eclipse, vacuum leak

Question
I have A 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0L, no turbo. I Start the car and it starts up the car in the morning, and it starts up fine.  It runs good at Idle and everything and in minutes in park by the way, it dies out of nowhere, as if I turned it off with the key.  I got no engine light on or anything.  And it starts right up again, sometimes it does it again, sometimes it dosen't turn over for a while, And noticed that if I leave the ingnition on for a while after it shut down once, it starts up and it dosen't shut down anymore until I leave it sitting for hours.  Please help what can be the problem.

Answer
Julio: You need to have the car coded to see what the computer might tell you is wrong with the car. If the car just stops the computer is kicking it off for some reason. Such as bad sensor someplace, the computer thinks there is a problem in the system, could be also that the fuel pump in your car is getting weak too. You can also have that tested to make sure it is putting out enough fuel to keep that engine running. Just sitting idling the engine does not need much fuel but moving down the road is whole other story. Sometimes the computer will kick on that light but I have seen other times when it doesn't too. You have to remember it takes three things to get that engine to move the car down the road; air, stark and fuel. When is the last time you did a good tune up on this car? Sometimes you will be surprised how much that would help the car. Ok, so try a good tune up, have the car coded to see if the computer will kick out anything and have that pump fuel checked to see if it is putting out enough fuel for your car. Get a repair manual for your car, most parts stores have them and they cost around $20.00. It would explain at what pressure that fuel pump should be pumping, oh yes you could have a vacuum leak they will sometimes causes what you are talking about too. So here are some ideas to try and hope this helps. God bless: Linda
