Land Rover Repair: 1996 Land Rover Discovery shakes, radius arm bushings, land rover discovery

Question
I own a 1996 Discovery, and when I get above 80km/h - 110 km/h and I hit a decent sized bump in the road, my truck sharts to shimmy side to side violently. And the only way I have found to solve this is by slowing it down to below 70 or above 120, then it smooths out. I took it to the Land rover dealership and they said they could not find the problem, though they did replace the front shocks and bearings, though it did not help, please help me.

Answer
This kind of shake is caused by the interaction of improperly balanced wheels, alignment, and loose front end parts. So step 1 is to find out what's loose.  Possibilities are:

1 - tie rod ends
2 - wheel bearings
3 - swivel bearings
4 - panhard rod bushings
4 - radius arm bushings

Some or all of the above have play in them

Next, make sure the wheels are properly balanced and the toe in is correctly set.

Next, make sure your steering damper is good - old dampers often have dead spots where they move an inch or so with no damping at all.
