Mitsubishi Repair: 91 eagle talon tsi, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I just bought a 91 talon tsi and the guy i bought it from drove it everyday for three years and one day it just quit running so i tested all related sensors etc and it still wont run right it starts but it misfires real bad and wont idle with mass air flow sensor plugged in but will idle and run but wont boost when MAFS unplugged and the check engine light does not come on in the shop manual it says that if the light is working properly it will come on for 5 seconds when you turn the ignition on I already checked the circut and both wire harnesses they are good the manual also says that the MAFS circut has 3 wires that are supposed to have between 4.6-5.4 v battery possitive voltage from the ecu and they dont so i was just wondering if you think i need a new ecu and if u know where to get one cheap. thanks!

Answer
Jake: If the computer is ill it would not kick the check engine light on because to the computer there is no problem. As for getting another computer, don't buy one from a dealer but rather check around to find one to buy. Wish I could tell you of a cheap one, but you want one that will work in your car and work good. Right? Check around on the net, some companies will rebuild the one you got or else sell you another one. But make sure you get the right one for your engine and model of car. If the car runs better with things unplugged the very things that the computer needs to run the car, then it does sound like the computer is bad. If one day it just stopped running does point to a bad computer. So you will have to check on the net for that computer. Though I would love to help you there, I can only do so much. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
