Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi Montero LS 1995 3.0L V6, vacuum leaks, emission control system

Question
Just recently, the vehicle is backfiring on start up, this only happens for a couple of seconds and is rectified by stepping on the accelerator. It feels as if there is a blockage that needs pushing through with an injection of gas. Once this has been done the car runs well. I do not want this to get worse. Any ideas?
Regards
Andy

Answer
Andy: It could be one or many things, but I will share with you right out of my repair manual... emission control system not functioning properly, ignition timing incorrect, faulty secondary ignition system(cracked stark plug insulator, faulty plug wires, distributor cap and/or rotor, aother words when is the last time you did a tune up on this car??), fuel injection system in need of adjustment or worn excessively, vacuum leaks and damaged or worn lash adjuster and/or valves sticking. There are some ideas to check, if this just started I would start with the tune up. Sometimes in our busy lifes we kind of forget about doing tune ups on our cars. Because they are running so good, next thing we know it has been a long while for such a thing. So try that and see what happens. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
