Mitsubishi Repair: Transmission problems after overhaul., torque converter, ford f150

Question
Hi linda.

right after overhauling the engine on a 2.4l sohc 97 mitsubishi spyder the 5 speed automatic transmission went out now just first and second gears are working now, mechanic's excuse its that its normal when you overhaul an engine for the transmission to mess up, but the problem started at the first test drive and i didnt even force the engine at all im thinking its an error on the assembly process  they did took the torque converter off to replace the seal so im suspecting that could be the problem.
What do you think.

Thanks in advance.

Ed.

Answer
Ed: I think you need to get yourself a lawyer, as you paid good money to have that mechanic to overhaul that engine, they must have not hooked something up right. Because that is not how it works, the transmission worked before the engine was overhauled it should work just fine now. So you need to put your foot down and tell them that. They are just trying to get you to pay them to fix that transmission when there is really nothing wrong with it. You need to take the car to a different shop and see what they tell you. But I would be getting after that first shop because if the transmission does not work they broke something or else just never hooked things up so they could get you for a overhaul on that transmission too. The problem is I have no idea what they might have done to mess up the transmission. I just put a different engine in my Ford F150 and the transmission works just fine. I hooked everything up as it was on the old engine. So get after that shop, tell them to fix that transmission because it worked fine before they overhauled the engine. And if they won't do it, get a lawyer you paid them good money for their work. If you take the car to another shop like a transmission shop, they could tell you what they forgot to do or hook up right. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
