Mitsubishi Repair: montero sport overheating, mitsubishi montero sport, mitsubishi montero

Question
my mitsubishi montero sport is majorly overheating and making odd noises from engine(not clicking) the noise is quite hard to explain.I changed the thermostat and did not help. the fan is kicking on. what could possibly be wrong. It seems as if the coolant is flowing when the car is running so could this be more than just the water pump?

Answer
Christian: Are you sure that something is not blocking the radiator core or grille. Because you got to get air moving in and around the radiator for everything to work right. Are you sure the blades are not broken on the fan or cracked. How old is the radiator cap, as it might not doing its job with the pressure so the water is leaking out there, replace that. You can check the water pump, as it has very small spots on it what will drop water, small amount when the water pump is going bad. Check the belts to make sure they are tight, that they aren't slipping then the water pump would not be turning as it should be. That might be the noise you are talking about. Or maybe the belt should be replaced as it is bad. Check to see what color smoke is coming out of your exhaust. If it is white in color, look to see if you are getting a bit of water in your engine oil and/if you can smell coolant in the car; then you would have blown a head gasket. If nothing else take the car to a shop and get this checked out. Other wise if you get the car to hot to often you will blow that head gasket and that is costly! Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
