Mitsubishi Repair: Lancer cc 1800i Idle solenoid motor, solenoid, engine speed

Question
My Lancer has started having problems where the engine speed starts to hunt at idle as though I am revving it.  It hunts between 800 and 2000 rpm. This is intermittent.  When it is not doing that the idle stay between 1100 and 1500 rpm, whatever it picks on the day.  I had the solenoid motor cleaned and nothing changed.  I am now being told that I need a new solenoid motor.  It is very expensive.  Is there anything else I can do before I have to buy one.  regards

Answer
Bruce: Ever had your car coded to rule out any problems with the computer or the sensors? Are you sure what is wrong with your car is the solenoid? Because the only solenoid I know goes with the starter to help start the engine. I was thinking you might be talking about the Idle Speed Control Motor. Still before you spend the money for that costly part I would have the car coded, that will rule out any other problems that might be causing this problem. I would also go to another shop to get a second idea on what they think your problem might be. Or else what could be causing it. I understand about the expensive part so I would try the second shop to see what they tell you. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
