Mitsubishi Repair: Montero Sport Front Rotor, montero sport, hub cap

Question
QUESTION: Hi
I was trying to replace my front rotors
but after taking off the hub, (and the bracket that hold the break pads) i could see the bearings
but i couldn't pull off the rotors
there were two (brass looking) screws that held a ring onto the bearing that i couldn't undo, not sure if that was my problem, but i didn't want to try beating the rotors off, for fear i was missing something

ANSWER: Tim: I hope you have a repair manual for your car? Right year and model. It would explain what you need to know about this. Without the year it is hard for me to tell you what you might need to get those rotors off. Either take the car to a shop and let them do it. Or else go to any parts store and buy yourself a repair manual for your car, they cost around $20.00 and well worth the money. It would walk you through the whole thing, telling you of nuts, screws and what not that must be removed to get those rotors off. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply, its a 2002 Montero Sport
I've been to many stores and cant find a Haynes or Chilton for this truck, and in looking at their respective web sites, it seems they don't sell one either :(

Answer
Tim: Ok, I remember that sometimes these parts stores have not or sometimes does not have manuals for newer cars. I guess they just never break down. lol. Ok, well I can give you a break down of how things should go... this is for an older car but still I don't believe they haven't changed the cars all that much. If nothing else it will give you an idea on things... remove wheel/tire, remove hub cap, remove a steel plate held on by 5 - 6 bolts, remove snap ring, loosen set screws and remove ring that bearing together(two pronged special tool needed here)(buy the one made for Ford cars and ground off two pins as the tool has four pins on it, it will fit perfectly, most parts stores sells the Ford tool.), remove bearing, remove bolts that holds rotor to spindle, remove rotor, put on new rotor and reverse the process, repack bearing and misc. bolts. First torgue valve for seating the bearing is 119 ft.lbs. If you want to read up on these questions well some like your's you might try this site... (mitsubishiforum.com) .It turns out you need a tool to remove some set screws and so a kind of tool. Which Ford makes for their cars and trucks. Of course the important companies does not have such a thing because they want you to bring the car into their shops. So when up on this site I learned that this Ford tool works just as well but comes with four pins and so the person writing just grounded off two of the pins. So the tool worked just fine on his car. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
