Mitsubishi Repair: 93 3000gt sl auto, transmission shop, best bet

Question
Hi I just bought a 93 3000gt sl auto. the trans is going into limp mode. I can tell that it is a recent rebuild. when not in limp mode it works great (no slipping etc) the fluid is fine. I used a voltmeter on the diagnostic terminal but the needle just went back and forth repeatatly does this sound like a tcm?? if so any advice on rebuilt vs used. $50 vs $200  thanks chuck

Answer
Chuck: Did you know that the computer of your car runs that transmission in that keeping it shifting right? If the computer is putting the transmission into that limp mode there is a problem with the transmission. What I am not sure but it could be a sensor someplace. Your best bet would be to put the car into a transmission shop and have them check it out. You say the fluid is fine, but what color is it? Pink? Brown & pink? All brown? Does it smell burnt? Hey I would change the fluid and the filter just to see if that might help some; but also put in a  transmission conditioner(you can buy this at most parts stores). If the computer is putting the transmission into the limp mode, I would think that fluid would be some other color than pink. Most people just go out and buy another transmission and put it in. But if the problem is with the computer in the car, then replacing the transmission does not work because you still have the problem. So that would be the reason to get a transmission shop to check things out for you. I would rebuilt myself, but that is just me. Because you know what you have, it has been in the car from the time the car was built and so that is my idea. But that is just me. You will have to talk things over with others, look at the cost and time... go from there. I hope this helps and God bless... Linda
Gee Chuck: I did forget to tell about the computers, should have wrote that to you. About them being built by a different company, a piece starts leaking into the computer with time will kill it off. One large opps on my part. I hope replacing the computer will work for you. Have a good one! Linda
