Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi Mirage 1993 relays and fuses, mitsubishi mirage, dashboard light

Question
My dashboard light is out and dimmer is not working.  Which relay or fuse can be the problem.  I need the name on the relay or fuse so I can locate it.  Is there a bulb that should be replaced?  Or could it be the dimmer switch?  Have changed all the bulbs and all the 10Amp fuses.  Back lights are now on but not the dashboard light.

Answer
Dona: As you open the hood to your car, looking down on the engine there should be two or three black boxes through out the engine. One over on the driver's side of the engine, close to the firewall, on the tops of each of these boxes tells what is in them. As to relays and larger fuses. Then on the other side of the engine should be another one but over close to the battery should yet be another one. Again on the tops or covers of each box tells what is in them. Could those boxes have what is causing your problems but could be the bulbs for the dashboard light and the dimmer light is out. You will then have to replace the bulbs. Or could be a wire has broken in the steering column, as that happens with older cars too. Then you will need to get a repair manual, most parts stores have them for around $20.00 and a voltmeter, find the problem with that. Oh yes, if you replace a relay from one of those black boxes, be sure to remove the neg cable off the battery first, remove the bad relay, put in the new one and put the cable back. Other wise you will blow the new relay right off the back and have to start over. I hope this helps and God bless: Linda
