Mitsubishi Repair: 2002 Mitsubihsi Eclipes GT, throttle position sensor, vacuum leak

Question
Have this car was driven one day went to pull into driveway and it just stalled on me. Will not start and run unless the car is given alittle gas while turning key. Once car starts have to keep giving gas for it to run. Car will stall at half a grand when letting off the gas. So in other words car will run fine as long as the RPM's are above that half grand. Any suggestions on this vehicle?

Answer
David: I would have the car coded, you might have a weak sensor or a bad sensor someplace. Even if the check engine light is not on. Other thing would be to have checked would be the fuel pump, I have been replacing a lot of them of late with this high cost of fuel. You know that the fuel is what keeps the pump cool, so if you run the car down to empty a lot pretty soon you burn the pump out. Still your problem sounds like a weak sensor someplace, the computer pulls all its thought from sensors all over the engine and then with that, it sets up the engine to run. But if one sensor is not working right, the computer does not pick up on this always. It could be that your throttle position sensor is getting bad but then this is just a guess on my part. When is the last time you did a tune up on the car? Sometimes just a good tune up, new air filter does wonders. Another thing after reading my repair manual would be a vacuum leak. All in all, you really need to get the car into a shop and have it checked out. As the problem will only get worse. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
