Mitsubishi Repair: 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante, haynes repair manual, mitsubishi diamante

Question
I bought the car used from a private party. It had a trany problem so i assumed it needed a trany so i put one in.it is still doing the same thing.it will shift into reverse no problem,it also shifts into drive no problem but will not shift out of first gear.i ran the car on a snapon counselor and it came up with a speed sensor circuit code.the speed sensor is located in the instrument cluster in the speedometer.the speedometer does not come all the back down to zero and the tachometer is also not working but the snapon counseler was able to tell me that the wires from tach out are good because it showed up on the computer.should i replace the instument panel to solve my problem or are there some other places to find functional tests to run with a multi meter to make sure the right voltage and amperage is reaching the sensor.buy the way i bought a chiltons and it does not give any methods for testing the speed sensor or tach head.

Answer
Michael: You need to replace the speed sensor circuit. Then you need to replace the speedometer cable, as that will get your speedometer working. As for the tech, you might have to replace that as the tech its self might be bad. Even if the power for it shows up in the computer. I would go out and buy a Haynes repair manual, I like it the best as they walk your through things better and explain things better. It could be that your pulse generator, kickdown servo switch is bad and now your computer is not picking up on that different transmission. Still you must replace that speed sensor circuit to fix this problem. As the sensor is bad, without that the computer will not shift the transmission. But you should take the car back to the place that put in the transmission and get them to change that sensor for you. These transmissions are really hard to understand at times because the computer has so much to do with them. So best bet is let a shop help you with this. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
