Mitsubishi Repair: 95 galant wont start .. no fuel in line, gas tank, fuel filter

Question
OK we went through a lot with this car .. replace computer, spark plugs and wires. Had it running fine ..went filled it up with gas and all was well with it. Until on the way to work it started sounding funny then died when i had to stop. Had diagnostic run again and it is reading something small (i cant remember but 2 mechanics said it WOULD NOT cause the problem I'm having) drive it home from the shop and it dies. To not crank again. I had someone come tow it and he pulled the line off and had me try to start it and said there was no gas coming in. So here is what i want to know .. could this be just the filter clogged (wishful thinking) does this car have a fuel reset anywhere? where would i find the fuel filter and fuel pump? I have been told different places for the filter and I have NO clue what i am looking for, so searching does me no good. I'm ready to set fire to it and roll it down a large hill ;) after $500 just for the computer i am tapped out and know someone will charge me my 1st born to change the pump.

Answer
Jennifer: First go to a parts store and for around $20.00 you can buy a repair manual for your car. It will explain and have pictures to show where the fuel filter is. As for the fuel pump it is in the gas tank. And that would have to be changed by a shop, boyfriend or husband?? Look if you had the car coded and something was kicked out; be dammed with the mechanic get it fixed. No matter what they say, if the computer kicked out one or two sensors that need to be replaced do it. If they are very costly and some are new. Find a junk yard and put in used ones. Because for your car to run the computer takes in all the readings from all the sensors, sets up how the engine should run and goes with it. If one or two sensors are out or weak; it could mess with the computer. You can have the fuel pump checked to see if it is putting out enough fuel. Does the car start and try to run or are you getting nothing? Because nothing could be mean that the timing belt broke. That again will have to be replaced by a shop. How many miles on your car and have you ever had that replaced. Most timing belts will go to 100,000 miles. But I like them replaced at about 60,000 miles. How did the he know there was no fuel coming in? Are you a person that lets her car run down to empty before filling it up? Now look with this high cost of fuel, I can sure understand that. But did you know the fuel is what keeps the fuel pump cool, do that enough and with time you will cook the fuel pump. Always go to 1/4 of a tank and then put in more fuel. I do wish the dealerships would explain this to people but they don't. Have you tried to take the distributor loose; turn it to the left or to the right to see if the car will start then? Have you looked inside the distributor cap, does it have white dust in it? The distributor cap, is what the stark plug wires run to, they hook into the distributor cap. If you find a stark plug wire just follow it to the distributor cap. There should be two small screw on the top and bottom where the distributor cap hooks to the engine. If you take those screws loose, then turn the whole distributor cap either to the left or right to see if the car will start. In that distributor cap is a crank sensor. If when trying to start the car, have some check to see if the drive belt is turning if not then the timing belt is bad or the drive belt is bad. I guess you should check those belts too. When you first get ready to turn the key to start the car, you should be able to hear for a second or two, the fuel pump start up, but it has to be quiet around your car and no radio. Sometimes if you can get someone to lay on the ground back by the back of your car, they might be able to hear the pump but even if you hear it does not mean it is putting out enough fuel to keep the engine running. The fuel filter would be up on the fire wall, but again that repair manual would really help you out there. Are you sure your friend pulled off a fuel line? No fuel reset that I know of. I know cars can be a real pain in the ass when you are a female and you have all these guys telling you things. I know every car is different, but I think the fuel filter would be on the fire wall, it would be  well heck I can not come up with a way to explain the darn thing. That would be where the repair manual would help you. Oh hey I should read my repair manual more often but then I mostly work on older Eclipses but in my manual it talks about a fuel pump relay. One thing though are you sure the new computer is hooked up right and every screw, bolt is tight. Because the computer controls the fuel output. When you open the hood to your car, there should be two or three small black boxes they have on their tops what is in each box, in the way of relays and large fuses. I think one is on the driver's side of the car, up close to the fire wall. The fire wall is what is between the engine and the inside of the car. Two more of those boxes are over by the battery or on the other side of the car. Again they should explain what is in each box. If you do end up replacing something in one of those boxes, remember to take the neg cable off the battery and then replacing it again after the new relay or fuse is put in the box. Other wise you will have to replace them again. So check those boxes and keep me posted on this. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
