Mitsubishi Repair: limp mode, pulse generator, 8l

Question
I own a 90 eclipse 1.8L that decided to go into limp mode without the engine light coming on.  You can drive in on the highway and after a few miles and warming up, it downshifts and stays there until you shut it off and let it set and then it will reset.  It is currently at the chrysler shop (no mitsu dealer) and they are having a hard time figuring out why it is doing this.  Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks

Answer
Landon: The fact that the computer is putting your car into a limp mode, doesn't sound good. There is a problem with the transmission. The problem is finding what it is. You could try replacing the pulse generator or the kickdown servo switch but no promises that will fix your problem. You might have to just rebuild or replace the transmission. I would say this all has to do with your computer, no matter no engine light. You should have the computer checked out too. As Mitsubishi did farm out the building of their computers to another company; that company did not build very good ones. With time a piece will start to leak into the computer and it will then kill off the computer. So why not have the computer coded, I mean it would rule out any problems with sensors or the computer. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
