I have a 2001 Mitsubishi eclipse gt v-6 3.0L...My car while driving down the road it stopped the engine kept running but the transmission wouldn't engage the engine runs fine and all the fluids are fine and clean just can't figure out why it won't engage

The problem sounds like it may be a faulty torque converter, faulty manual linkage cable, or malfunctioning vale body.  I'd recommend having either the dealership or transmission shop inspect your transmission.  Your average local mechanic may not be equipped to work on your transmission.
