Mitsubishi Repair: solenoid, solenoid switch, starter motor

i think that my solenoid switch needed to be changed, but i'm not sure if its the switch or the start solenoid. it makes a ticking noise even when the car is off. if you could help me that would be great, thanks.

If it is making noise with the car off and no key in the ignition, that sounds like an electrical short in the system.  Depending on the year, make, and model of the car you have and if you can even get the car started would help me better determine a possible cause.  Else, have a mechanic inspect the car.  It may be something as simple an exposed wire and/or bad starter motor.
