Question
i have a 97 eclipse. its leaking oil pretty good under car theres oil all over the exaust and it smokes bad after car gets hot. so we had the oil sendin unit replaced cause the mechanic said thats what it was. but its still leaking. i kinda traced the leak to the back of the motor below the manifold i noticed oil is from that point and on down. what could it be leaking from. plus the check engine light just came on and the car cuts back everytime i get on it. but if you baby it, it doenst cut back but when steady giving it gas such as going up a large incline the car keeps cutting back almost like its spark knocking, but its got new plugs in it? plz help.

Answer
Chris: What color is this oil? In if this is not a clutch car, could you be loosing transmission fluid? So the oil would be a pinkish color. Other wise I would check the gasket around the oil pan, sometimes they will get weak. The car's valve cover gaskets could be bad, so will need to replace them. As for the check engine light, you need to have the car coded. As the computer is picking up a problem in the system. Got an AutoZone close by? They will code your car for free. When is the last time you did a good tune up on the car, not just stark plugs but wires, distributor cap and rotor? With all the oil the car is burning, might check the air filter, it should be changed too. Hope this helps and good luck! ~Linda~
