Mitsubishi Repair: Galant power window malfunction, reverse polarity, older cars

Question
My passenger side power window on 2000 galant has begun to malfunction.  The window will go down from both driver and passenger switches but when attempting to raise the window it seems to malfunction.  It may raise the window an inch or so on occasional attempts, but now that it is down all the way, it wont move up at all.  If the motor is a reverse polarity motor (not sure), what could the possible issue be (mechanical, electrical or other).  Any recommentations on repairs.

Answer
Mike: Your car is not that old and so I am surprised that you are having such problems with your car. I mostly work on much older cars. But I shall give you some ideas to check, but I really think I would take the car into a shop or dealership tell them what is going on, let them find the problem. Could be somehow the window has got off the track. The power windows system operates the electric motors mounted in the doors which lower and raise the windows. The system consists of the control switches, the motors(regulators), glass mechanisms and associated wiring. You could maybe have a wiring that is coming loose, is broken somewhat. Or still I wonder if the window might have got off its track somehow and so the motor is just not able to open it like it should. Could be your have blew the fuse or circuit breaker by trying to get the window to work. So again I would take the car to a shop or the dealers, they should be able to find your problem. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
