Mitsubishi Repair: Mitsubishi Rear Drums, sticky brakes, propane torch

Question
The rear drums on my 2000 Galant won't come off. It seems to be rusted badly around the center hole. I have tried much banging, prying etc. to no avail. The 2 small holes in the drum did not appear to have any threads in them. Do they have anything to do with removing the drum? If so, what do you insert in them?

Answer
Dennis,
If you haven't tried it already, you can try spraying around the drum with PB Blaster penetrating oil.  Let it soak for several hours.  Re-soak it, and let it sit for a long time again.  You can also try heating up the cover with a propane torch.  Unfortunately, if brakes are rusty enough, there is no magic removal process.  Trust me, I've tried them all :).  I've even had to use 15 lb sledge hammers in some extreme cases.  If worse comes to worse, you may want to take your car to a brake shop.  They have all sorts of specialized pullers, crowbars, pliers, etc. that they use all the time to remove sticky brakes.
Good luck!
