Mitsubishi Repair: oil light, light flickers, weight oil

Question
2001 Mits. Spyder 4 cylinder- When the engine goes to approx 500 rpm the oil light flickers on. Once the RPM's go up the light goes off. Oil is getting up into the engine as there is no knocking and pulling the fill cap can see oil inside upper area of engine. Any suggestions?

Answer
Rory: What is the weight of oil you are running in your engine? If you tried a heavier weight oil it might help. Most places that change oil these days, put in 5W30 but some cars work better on 10W30. You have to watch these places because they want to put in the lighter weight oil, it is cheaper for them and they carry a lot of it. But put your foot down and say you need to have that heavier weight and see if that helps your car. Oh one more thing these places that change your oil will tell you that your car will start better with the lighter weight. Well maybe if you lived someplace where it got down to 50 below but other wise I think you are safe in trying this. So keep me posted as how this works for you. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
