Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Mits Eclipse 2.0 n/turbo, oil blend, synthetic oil

My boyfriend changed my oil and put in synthetic oil blend instead of just the regular oil 10W-40.  Now my car smokes at times when I have been idle.  has 120,000 miles. he says it is the engine getting cleaned out?

Kat: I would put the oil back in that the car is use to having, with that many miles on your car I like to run a heavier oil. Because the engine parts are old and wore. I know a lot people think that synthetic oil is so good, but I would say in your case it causing the car to burn oil. In that some of that oil is getting by the rings, so the car is smoking. I would say "thank you for the oil change now put back in the heavier oil". Don't want to cause a fight between you two but stick to what your car is use to. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
