Volkswagen: Clutch, clutch pressure plate, rear seal

Question
I have a 73 super beetle. It has a rebuilt engine and transmission along with new clutch, pressure plate and bearing.  When taking off from a stop position, the clutch chatters.
Could this be adjustment, or cable and bowden tube problems?  The clutch and engine have been in over 10 years but have less than 10,000 miles on them.

Answer
Hey man,

A chattering clutch usually is caused by one or more of the following:

1) Oil got on the clutch somehow

2) The pressure plate had a spring break on it

3) The flywheel needs to be resurfaced.

Suggestion:  Get a new clutch, rear seal, have the flywheel resurfaced, and check the pressure plate splines.

You may have had a little oil on your hands which got on the clutch area as well.   The cable should be set according to the bentley manual, but hardly ever causes this type of problem

All your worries will be gone,  it's due for one and should cost less than $150.00

Good Luck and keep me posted.
