Mitsubishi Repair: 1997 Mits Galant 2.0, flashing light, galant

Question
Today my wifes Galant started flashing the "N" light.
I asked her to slip it into 3rd. Still flashes, only stops when the car is in Park.
Dous this mean I should have the transmission fluid changed, or is it more serious

Answer
David: Sounds like a sensor to me, but still you should have the fluid and filter changed. And then have the car coded, it would rule out any problems with a weak sensor or the computer. Still you take it in someplace to get that fluid and filter changed, they would be able to tell you what is going on. When is the last time you changed that fluid and filter? Is the color of the fluid still pink or has it gone to a pink/brown color? Or is all brown? You do check it, right? I ask this because I have had people write me and then found out they never check the fluid. Listen always start with the easy things that don't cost a lot, if you got an AutoZone close by they could code your car for free. But the transmission a shop will have to change the fluid and filter for you. Start that way and see if that fixes that flashing light or not. I got to be honest here, I have never had anyone write to me with this. How does the car shift? That would explain a lot too. But still the fluid, filter and a coding then go from there. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
