Mitsubishi Repair: brake light and dim light not working, high beams, fog lights

Question
A few days ago I had the front brake pads on my 2000 Gallant ES changed.  On the way home I stopped and noticed the dim light on the passenger side of the car didn't work.  When I got home I checked the rest of the lights and found the brake light on the passenger side didn't work either.  I checked the bulbs and found they were all good.  However I found the socket, for the light that doesn't work, had melted in one spot.  So I bought a new socket and bulb at autozone and replaced them.  Still the dim light and brake light on the one side doesn't work.  No problems with the high beams or fog lights.  Is there anything I can do without going to a shop?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Dustin,
If there was a strong enough current draw to melt the wires of the brake light socket, there probably is still a problem in the circuit that leads to the light switch in the tumble multi-switch in the steering column.  If you're capable, the best way to check this is to test the circuit with a voltmeter all they way along the circuit until you see where you get a steady 12 volt draw.  Else, you may want to have a mechanic check it.
Good luck!
