Mitsubishi Repair: check engine light, turbo engine, turbo kit

'97 Eclipse, 2.0, motor 420a, 5sp. check engine light stays on. Tech. told me th/ I was losing vapors. My car is making a whistling sound when I try to accelerate. Also my check engine light starts to blink on & off. Idling w/ a/c on it really sounds bad, like it wants to go dead.Also could you tell what is the style of my car? The motor is 420a but on the back it says GS-T.... Please help me because I love my car and I don't want to sell it. Thank you.

The GS-T had a turbo engine.  If you open your hood, and do not see a turbocharger right behind the radiator, chances are good someone just bought the "GS-T" decal sticker and slapped it on the back to make people think it's a turbo engine.  It's possible (if you're not the first owner) that a previous owner installed an aftermarket turbo kit on the car, but your engine would still be a 420a model.  If you want, you can send me a follow-up message with your VIN, and from that, I'd be able to tell you exactly how your car came from the factory.
