Mitsubishi Repair: Plymouth Laser 2.0ltr twin cam timing belt, plymouth laser, cam timing

Question
My timing belt has broken, has this caused any further damage to the valves or pistons in this engine?

Answer
Darryll: Love to help you but this would just be a guess on my part. I mean it is really up to what was happening to the engine when the timing belt went as well as the miles on that engine. I mean where you zipping down the road at highway speeds? Running the car up through the gears? Or were you slowing down for a stop sign, low speed and easy on the engine. In most cases when the timing belt goes, it takes the valves with it. Not always the pistons. You will have to have a shop check this out and have them tell you about your engine. You know where you were when it went and how you were driving the car. Not working the engine to hard less damage, pushing it pretty hard; more. Now look I pulled this from years of working on cars and seeing this first hand. As well as checking my repair manual. But you might be lucky too, so let a shop check the engine and see what they tell you. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda
