Mitsubishi Repair: Misfire and Trans rattle, eclipse gt, engine knock

Question
I have 2 questions. I have a 2004 eclipse gt that has a misfire in several cylinders. Mitsubishi has replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor and has reprogrammed my ecu twice and it still misfires. What could they be missing? Also, my manual transmission has a sound similar to an engine knock coming from it at idle and thru first and second gears. Mitsubishi gave me paperwork that states it is aware of it and that the noise appears after 30 min of driving and when outside temps reach 80 degrees and that it is not harmful to my transmission. I don't buy their explanation becasue it happens all the time, even at start up after a cold night and wonder if I should have my clutch replaced? Have you heard of this problem? My clutch isn't slipping but the noise is bothersome.

Answer
Mike: Not sure if I am going to be any help to you or not. One place you might try is (http://www.mitsubishisucks.com)it might help you with some of things going on with your car. But I was thinking you might try a better stark plug wire, such as good high-voltage racing one that might help with the misfires. The knocking is another sensor out, it is called a OEQ knock sensor. As long as your clutch is working fine, in that you can shift the car and move through the gears, other than this knocking noise. Changing the clutch would not really help, you would just have a new clutch and the knock. Try that sensor and see if that might help you. Please make sure that Mitsubishi is doing the work they say they are. Sometimes I have found that if they can not find an easy fix, they kind of give up and then send home reports such as what you got. I guess I would ask them to stand behind that report, should anything happen to your transmission. If they will then, the report is true and if they won't; then don't believe them. But I would try that sensor to see if that fixes your problem with the noise. Are you sure they really replaced the ecu with a new one, twice? I always tell people to ask to see the old parts, even if that makes the dealership mad, you have a right to keep them honest. Hopefully they replace with the right ecu too. I do hope this helps you some. I really work on older cars but I did looked up on the internet to see what I could find up there. Take care now and good luck!
